Colonel Md Shihabul Islam (Retd., Ex EME) received B. Sc. Engg. in Electrical and Electronics from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and M. Sc. Engg. in Computer Science and Engineering from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka, Bangladesh, in 1992 and 2017, respectively. Currently, he is pursuing his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka, Bangladesh. He was commissioned in the Corps of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Bangladesh Army after passing from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka, Bangladesh in 1992.
He has extensive professional and international peacekeeping experience, having served in two United Nations peacekeeping missions. His first United Nations mission was with BANENGR-4 as contingent member under the UNMEE in Eretria. He subsequently served in his second United Nations mission as a staff under the MONUSCO in DR Congo. In addition to his military and peacekeeping experience, he successfully completed a professional diploma program from the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), China, further enhancing his professional knowledge, skills, and international exposure. Colonel Md Shihabul Islam is having 30 years of experience in the field of administration, leadership and management in both technical and command level operation.
He is currently serving as an Associate Professor and Head, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Prime University, Mirpur 1, Dhaka. Prior to joining Prime University, he served as an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) in 2014-2018. His research interests cover machine learning (ML), digital image processing (DIP), human computer interactions (HCI), internet of things (IoT) and system security. He has co-authored several journal and conference papers, and presented his papers in different well-reputed conferences.
Besides, he achieved several other academic awards such as Academic Merit Scholarship from Department of EEE, BUET, and general scholarships from Jashore board, Peoples Republic of Bangladesh.Col Shihab is married and proud father of two daughters.
